Title: TROM
Post by: Jur93n on July 19, 2021, 02:12:53 am
I made a github repository that contains the manual and most of the recordings/lectures.
This means that it also will end up in the Arctic Code Vault, which will increase the survival of TROM a little bit more. ;D

It is funny you say the word "Arctic". A few years ago I had a vision that I was on an archeological expedition above a planet that had been frozen over with glaciers.  I was desperate to find something, namely Dennis' work.

Ok, now most if not all youtube videos have a part of the transcript in their description.
If you see anything that could be improved (like proposing a more important part of the transcript) then please let me know.

Hi Jur93n,

I'm looking at the YouTube facilities for including subtitles - I'm wondering if the transcripts could be copied and pasted into the subtitles section of each video. If you require another body to help you do this I am happy to assist, please advise if this is something I can do

Yes, it is possible but quite a lot of work. Attached is an example from "Upper Level : Tape 5 – Postulates, Self and the Obsessive IP (1st August 1994)".

Eeek! That's quite a thing, I thought (hoped  :o) the Google AI would be able to align the text if it was stripped down to basic text without headings, images etc.

I was working on another video recently without the timestamps, though that was on a section of text that Google had auto transcribed and I was only fixing the errors...

What's your thoughts Jur93n is this worth the effort?

Have been thinking about this on and off, perhaps whipping up a small script that smartly merges the original transcript into the time based script downloaded from Youtube. I will take my time looking if that is feasible, I prefer having something automatic so that I can run it for all subtitles at once and then only having to do a review and an upload.

absolutely a script / something 'auto-magically' is the way forward - work smart not hard

It seems Youtube can handle txt files without timing and it will process this to insert the timings. So actually the only thing needed is the txt files for each video and then they need to be uploaded for each video as 'no timing' text files for the captions.
You can see an example here: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rscex2GV4Jo"
