Dennis states that the object of TROM is to move you attention out of the past and into the present.  This ability is to develop control of where you put your attention. Itís like pointing a flashlight in a dark room.  You can put the beam any where you like.
With TROM the exercises all have you putting your attention on the present moment directly. This is what RI does. You can only create something in the present moment so the creative process is one of bringing your attention into the present moment and creating something.
The balance of the processes in TROM are for finding emotionally charged incidents in the past that pull your attention out of the present and by repeatedly looking at them reduce their charge so you can put your attention on the present moment in time.
All physical objects are in the present moment so grabbing them is the mechanical way of putting your attention on the present moment.
